Shirley Mae (Huff) Carver, 86, of Mount Vernon, Indiana, died on June 21, 2025, at Solarbron Senior Living Center in Evansville, Indiana. Born on November 13, 1938, Shirley was the daughter of the late Harvey and Estelle Huff. She was a registered nurse, having worked for many years in private practice and for the Commonwealth of Kentucky, at Western State Hospital in Hopkinsville, and as a nursing home inspector. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila (Carver) Miller, her husband Bobby Carver, and her brother Obra Huff.
Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and enjoyed reading, watching sports, gardening, and word puzzles. Her grandchildren looked forward to her annual tradition of holiday baking, especially decorating sugar cookies and making bourbon balls as family gifts. She converted to Catholicism as an adult and was a member of St. Matthew Parish in Mount Vernon.
Survivors include her son, Reg Carver (Ann) of Atlanta; siblings Pam Robinson (Jim) of Mount Vernon and Bill Huff of Munfordville, Kentucky; grandchildren David Miller of Cleveland, Tennessee, Caroline Carcaterra (Matt) of Atlanta, and Chloe Carver of Philadelphia; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, June 26, at 3 pm at the Denning Family Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to St. Vincent De Paul Evansville or Heart to Heart Hospice Evansville. Online condolences may be left at denningfamilyfuneralhome.com
