Gladys R. Rowland, 96, of Mt. Vernon, went to be with Jesus on October 13, 2025, at Mt. Vernon Nursing and Rehabilitation. Gladys was born in St. Charles, Virginia, on February 7, 1929, the daughter of Wright and Rosie (Wallen) Stewart.
Gladys was married to Otis Rowland, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a loving home and raised their family. She took great pride in being a homemaker, devoting herself to caring for her household and nurturing her children. Gladys had a deep and abiding love for her children and grandchildren.
She was a devoted Christian who read her Bible daily and faithfully attended church whenever she could. In her final days, she found great comfort in listening to the old hymns she cherished throughout her life.
Gladys is survived by her son, Roger (Lisa) Rowland; daughters, Debbie (David) Stout and Amanda (Blaine) Kelly; grandchildren, David Stout Jr., Austin Kelly, and Justin Kelly; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Stewart; sisters, Judy Collier, Angel Sturgill, Irene Thomas, Dorothy Carter, and Patricia Garreffa; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Otis; and several siblings.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home with Rev. Myers Hyman officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday. A graveside burial service will take place on Friday, October 17, 2025, at 2:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) at Vinson Memorial Park Cemetery in Summitville, Indiana with Rev. David Stout officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to At the Cross Mission. Online condolences may be shared at denningfamilyfuneralhome.com.
