E. Alan Blackburn, 71, of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, passed away on October 2, 2025, at the University of Louisville Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. He was born on January 30, 1954, the son of the late Elmer J. and Allie Bell (Heriges) Blackburn.

Alan began his career at Farm Bureau Refinery (later CountryMark Refinery) upon graduating from Mt. Vernon High School in 1972 and retired as a carpenter after 39 years. He also served his community as a Posey County Sheriff's Reserve Deputy for a time and Posey County Councilman for over 8 years.

Alan was proud of the fact that he resided on the family farm for 71 years, being 10 months old when his parents built the house, and enjoyed peace in the country. He could often be found sitting on his porch, watching his hummingbirds and gazing out across the fields he had farmed with his father for many years. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also an avid USI Basketball fan, loved going out with his wife to eat, and had a passion for Corvettes, owning several throughout the years. He and his wife enjoyed riding their Goldwing and traveling several miles, when in their 50's, with friends.

He was also proud of his 55-year membership with Post #5 Sons of the American Legion and was also a past member of the Elks Lodge. Above all, Alan treasured his family, friends, and community. Known for his good-natured teasing, you always knew he liked you if he was giving you a hard time.

Alan is survived by his loving wife, Teresa (Bodkins) Blackburn; sons, John (Jenny) Blackburn and Mark (Debbi) Blackburn, and Shane O'Keefe; grandchildren, Alexis and Tyler Blackburn, and Ellie and Addie Blackburn, Brittany, Hunter, Cane O'Keefe and Alex Coon; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Ronald (Marcia) Neuman; as well as nieces, extended family, and many dear friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at Denning Family Funeral Home, with Rev. Dallas Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Children's Tumor Foundation or the Wildcats Remembered. Online condolences may be shared at denningfamilyfuneralhome.com.
