May 3, 1942 - August 4, 2025
Shirley Eades Chapman, 83, of 4363 Gladys Road, Altavista, died Monday, August 4, 2025, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of the late Phillip Stephen Chapman.
She was born May 3, 1942, in Campbell County, a daughter of the late Jerry Morton Eades, Sr. and Elizabeth Dowdy Eades. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church, dedicated over 30 years of service to The Lane Company, and later retired from Autumn Care of Altavista.
She is survived by one son, Phillip Dale Chapman of Gladys; two daughters, Dianne Fowler and her husband, Wayne of Goode and Ruby Smith of Gladys; two sisters, Laura Dudley and Joyce Bolen both of Altavista; three grandchildren, Raven Ketchum (Kenny), Derek Chapman, and Elliott Smith; five great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and her canine and feline companions, Jazzie and Smokie.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Catherine Eades and Dorothy Chapman; three brothers, Jerry Morton Eades, Jr., James Edward Eades, and Henry Stephen Eades; and a special son-in-law, Tommy Smith.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, August 10, 2025, at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by the Rev. Matt Gaston, with interment to follow in The Firstborn Prayer Tabernacle Cemetery, Gladys.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and other times at the residence of Ruby Smith, 2780 Gladys Road, Gladys.
