Shirley J. Coy, age 98, of Shullsburg, WI, passed away Sunday, March 16, 2025, surrounded by her family at Monroe Health Services in Monroe, WI. She was born May 28, 1926, in Richland County, WI, the daughter of Bennie and Merle (Kintz) Williams. She was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Coy on May 24, 1945, celebrating 71 years together.
Shirley was a devoted wife and mother, who loved caring for the family, especially cooking and baking. Her family was the center of her life. Shirley's keepsakes and recipes will be passed down from generation to generation.
Together - she and her husband ran the Ithaca Cheese Factory and then relocated to Shullsburg to run the Shullsburg Creamery. She enjoyed making baby quilts for her grandchildren throughout the years. Shirley enjoyed eating at the Wheel Inn with her husband and family, and getting to go orders from The Burg, Water Street Market, and Subway in Shullsburg. In her younger years, Shirley loved dancing and camping with her family in the north woods. Shirley was a longtime member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Shullsburg.
Shirley is survived by 7 children: Kenneth (Judy) Coy, Jr. of Browntown, WI, Patricia (Charles) Diaz of St. Joseph, MO, Vicky Coy (Bernie Wyman) of Butler, MO, Becky (Jim) Krakofsky of Burlington, WI, Douglas (Linda) Coy of Cuba City, WI, Melanie (Lonnie) Troy of Roscoe, IL, and Angela (Ken) Friedrichs of Monroe, WI; 15 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ken; two brothers: Leland (Donna) Williams and Carol Williams; two sisters: Margaret (Jim) Nachtigal and Gyneth Sugden; two daughters: Penny Ann Coy and Melinda Sue Cherek; four granddaughters: Amy Jo Krakofsky, Lisa (Krakofsky) Becker, Melissa Reed, and Nassrian Coy; a grandson: Rodney Corley; one great-grandson: Kamiko Mamaeula; and one son-in-law: Peter Cherek.
A funeral service will be held Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:30 A.M. at Centenary United Methodist Church (226 W. Church St., Shullsburg) with Rev. Jorge Ochoa officiating. Burial will be in Bloom City Cemetery in Richland County, WI. A visitation will be held Friday, March 21, 2025 from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services at the church. What a sweetheart of a lady and now an Angel. I will miss sitting with her and cleaning her dustless house. What a blessing it was to know her. Wish I was closer to Shullsburg right now but sending my condolences and love to the whole family. Prayers always. Barb Krause
