Shirley Jean Johnson Dill, 73, of Dover, Delaware lost her fight to cancer in her home with her daughter on September 17, 2025. Shirley was born on August 8, 1952, to the late Robert Clayton Johnson and Mary Ella Johnson (Collison). In addition to her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Dill, Sr.

Shirley attended Milford High School as well as nursing school to become an LPN. Over thirty years of her life were spent as a nurse; twenty-eight of those years were at Bayhealth Kent General as well as a Westminster Nursing Home and several other nursing facilities. Shirley enjoyed crocheting, reading books and going to the beach, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to church with her family at Cedar Grove but has since transitioned to Greensboro Baptist Church in Maryland.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Joeannie Layfield (Matt), Jennie Dill (Fred) and Mary Dill; her son, Lawrence R. Dill, Jr.; brother, William Johnson (Nora); sister, Phyllis Fox (Bill); brother in law, Norman Dill; grandchildren, Ethan Layfield, Aston Layfield, Izaak Layfield, James Patrick, Emma Patrick, Eric Patrick, Frederick Patrick, Lawrence Dill III and Tori Dill; special adopted grandchildren, Donyee Smith (and great granddaughter Alya Smith), Dominque Jellife, Desiree Borrows, Devan Martin; and several very special nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life for Shirley will take place on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 12:00pm at Greensboro Baptist Church, 401 W. Sunset Ave. Greensboro, MD 21639. The family will receive friends one-hour prior beginning at 11:00am.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly suggests that donations be made to Greensboro Baptist Church, 401 W. Sunset Ave. Greensboro, MD 21639. Or donations may be made to the Delaware Breast Cancer Association.
