Shirley Elaine Edwards entered into eternal rest at her residence on Friday, November 22, 2024, at the age of 82. She was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Gretna, LA (McDonoghville Community). Shirley attended L. B. Landry High School and worked at Robinson Canning Company. Shirley enjoyed walking through the neighborhood joking with family and friends, and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Her caring and giving spirit will be remembered by all who knew her. Beloved wife of the late Gerald Edwards. Daughter of the late Gussie Mahoney and Elmore DeVore; she was raised by the late Lawrence Mahoney. Devoted sister of Gwen DeVore, Consuella DeVore Cromedy, Arthur DeVore, and the late Sherry Johnson, Joycelyn Cryer, Madelyn Gray, Gussie Ott, Lois Ann DeVore, Elmore G. DeVore, and Vanessa DeVore Brown. Loving aunt and godmother of August Johnson III; also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Regular Baptist Church and all neighboring churches are invited to attend the Homegoing Service at Regular Baptist Church, 901 5th Street, Gretna, LA on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 10:00a.m. Pastor T. A. Hodge, officiating. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church. Interment: Restlawn Park Cemetery-Avondale, LA.
