Shirley Cox Glidewell, 86, of Hixson, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2025. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop, Louisiana on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
Born on August 10, 1938, in Mer Rouge, Louisiana, Shirley earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of Louisiana at Monroe in 1959 and a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Denver in 1960. She became a CPA in 1962 and was a professor of Accounting at the University of Central Arkansas and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock until 1964. On August 17, 1962, she married Bernard Young Glidewell (Mabelvale, Arkansas). While raising their family, Shirley served as a Class Administrator for her local Bible Study Fellowship group. She was also a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. When Shirley's children grew older, her professional career centered around teaching and training students and community members. Shirley also assisted her husband Bernard in his elevator inspection business in the 1990s, traveling the state of Arkansas with him.
Shirley is preceded in death by her husband, Bernard Young Glidewell; parents, Mildred Vosburg Cox and Earl Burch Cox; brother and sister-in-law, Charles William Cox and Wilma Dell Cox; and brother, Ertie Nick Cox. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Glidewell Bridgforth (Jeff) of Hixson, Tennessee, and their children, Katy, Ryan, and Lydia; and by her son, Michael Glidewell (Sarah) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and their children, Micah and Owen.
A gifted Bible teacher, Shirley was a member of Geyer Springs First Baptist Church (Little Rock, Arkansas) for over 20 years. Her love for the Lord and His Word were hallmarks of her life. She delighted in her five grandchildren and prayed for them daily.
A Celebration of Life for Shirley will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, in the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Burial will be at the Mer Rouge Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
