Shirley Gonnerman, age 89 of Odebolt, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at Gracewell Lutheran Home in Denison, IA. Shirley Marie Albrecht was born on April 13, 1936, to parents William and Ella (Klindt) Albrecht in Ida County. She grew up in Arthur, IA, and graduated from Odebolt High School in 1953. Shirley played 6 on 6 basketball in high school, and loved every minute of it. She was a very scrappy guard who gave it her all on the court. Shirley loved attending the IHSG State Championships over the years and had quite a collection of state tournament programs she had collected.
On June 17, 1953, Shirley married Wallace Gonnerman at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Odebolt. This union was blessed with four children: Amy, Randal, Wendy, and Michael. They made their home on a farm just outside of Odebolt. Both Shirley and Wallace loved the farm life. Shirley worked right alongside Wallace helping on the farm as well as always making sure everyone was fed. She was a wonderful cook and loved to bake. She enjoyed having guests over and made sure they never left hungry.
Shirley was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Spending time with her family brought her great joy. She enjoyed gathering with friends for card club and was a member of the Ladies Aid at church. She will be missed dearly by her family and all who knew and loved her.
