Betty Helen Gonnerman, the daughter of Isaac and Alice (Walters)Muilenberg, was born on August 28, 1926, on the farm in Osceola County near Melvin, Iowa. She died on March 1, 2025, at the Lakes Regional Hospital in Spirit Lake, Iowa at the age of 98 years, 6 months, and 1 day, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty graduated from Hartley High School.
On December 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Orville Gonnerman in Hartley, Iowa. After their marriage, the couple farmed in the Melvin, Hartley and Estherville, Iowa, areas. In 1972, the family moved into Estherville. She worked for Berkley, Super Value and for over 24 years at Good Samaritan Society, retiring in 1999. Betty was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, the ladies circle and the VFW Auxiliary.
Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren were the most important things in her life. Betty also enjoyed flowers, square dancing, camping, word searches and had a doll collection.
Betty is survived by her children, Charles (Lala) Gonnerman of El Paso, TX, Betty (Jerry) Taylor of Bakersfield, CA, Bonnie (Bob) Boetel of Lake Park, IA, and Curtis (Michelle) Gonnerman of Estherville, IA; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great-grandchildren with one on the way.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville Gonnerman, her parents, Isaac and Alice (Walters) Muilenberg, siblings, June Hoff, Violet Anderson, Charles Muilenberg, Glen Muilenberg, Emory Muilenberg and Earl Muilenberg, two grandchildren, Christy Johnson and Raymond Gonnerman and a great-granddaughter, Jersey Rienhardt.
