Shirley Griffin, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on March 2, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 5, 1954, in Ottawa, Kansas, to Robert and Delores (Blankenbeker) Phillips.
Shirley dedicated her career as a CNA, restorative therapy aide with Rock Creek of Ottawa for an impressive forty-one years, where she touched the lives of many with her compassion and kindness. Her unwavering dedication to her work mirrored her commitment to her family, as Shirley was known for her love of cooking for them, enjoying holidays together, and participating in various family activities.
On July 3, 1969, she united in marriage with David Wayne Griffin in Garnett, Kansas. Together, they shared a life filled with love and adventure, marked by their shared interests in camping, gardening, fishing, attending auctions, and even spending time at the casino and playing bingo. Shirley's fondness for mushroom hunting also became a cherished pastime.
As a proud mother, Shirley leaves to cherish her memory her daughters, Jamie Swanson (Felix), Kimberly Schmitz (Christopher), Renee Barber (Larry), Robyn Spielman (Eric Gomez), and sons, Rusty Griffin (Janet) and David Griffin (Ramona). She was a doting grandmother to twenty-four grandchildren and a loving great-grandmother to twenty-three great-grandchildren, who will always remember her warmth and zest for life.
Shirley was also a dedicated member of the Williamsburg Methodist Church, where she found community and fellowship. She is preceded in death by her husband, David Griffin, who passed on September 18, 2023, her father Robert Phillips, granddaughter Lindsey Griffin, and her brothers Michael and Robert Phillips.
Shirley Griffin will be lovingly remembered for her nurturing spirit, her unwavering dedication to her family and profession, and the joy she brought to everyone around her. Her legacy of love and kindness will continue to resonate within the hearts of her family and friends.
Cremation is planned with a graveside inurnment to be held 11:00am, Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Antioch Cemetery, Williamsburg, Kansas. Lunch will immediately follow at the Williamsburg Community Building, 126 W. Williams St., Williamsburg, Kansas.
