Daniel Brian Claar, 47, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones, on July 25, 2025, after a courageous and prolonged battle with melanoma.
Born on May 26, 1978, in Shawnee Mission, Kansas, Daniel lived a life full of warmth, laughter, and love. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1996 and went on to attend Pittsburg State University. Daniel later devoted 23 years of service to KC Bobcat, where he was known for his strong work ethic, dependability, and ever-present smile.
Daniel was the kind of person who never met a stranger. His friendly, outgoing nature and infectious grin made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He found his greatest joy in life’s simplest pleasures—tinkering in the garage, spending time outdoors, hunting, and making memories with his family. Trips to Arkansas held a special place in his heart, and he cherished every opportunity to share the experience with loved ones.
He was a devoted husband, a proud father, a loving son, a loyal brother, a cherished “unkie”, and an amazing friend. His presence brought light and laughter to every family gathering, and his legacy of kindness and strength will live on in those who knew and loved him.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Christina Claar; his children, Haylee and Peyton Claar; his parents, Donald and Diane Claar; his sister, Desiree and her wife Audrey Claar; nephews, Daxon and Silas Claar; and many extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Charles and Betty Bradford, Dale Claar, and Jerry and Hazel Hendrix.
A visitation will be held on August 8, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., where family and friends will gather to celebrate the life of a man who gave so much of himself to others.
Daniel’s spirit, laughter, and smile will be missed deeply—but never forgotten.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Melanoma Program at KUMC Endowment or Good Shepherd Hospice c/o Dengel & Son Mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa, Kansas 66067.
