Joyce M Hahn, 83, of Princeton, Kansas passed away Sunday, October 12, 2025 at the Wellsville Retirement Community, Wellsville, Kansas.
Funeral services to be held at 10am Friday, October 17, 2025, at Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Family will greet friends 5:30-7:30pm, Thursday, October 16, 2025, also at the funeral home. Interment Greenwood Cemetery, Pomona, Kansas.
Joyce was born May 7, 1942, in Pomona, Kansas, the daughter of Gene and Thelma (Reekie) Hamilton.
She was a lifelong resident of Franklin County, Kansas, spending most of her life on a small farm outside of Princeton. She graduated from Princeton High School with the Class of 1960.
Joyce was first married to Gary Bitts from 1962 to 1964. On March 19, 1971, she was united in marriage to Harvey Hahn in Oklahoma; they later divorced in 1987.
She began her career at Hallmark Cards, where she worked from 1961 to 1978. Later, she became the owner and operator of J&J Supply in Princeton for several years. Joyce enjoyed visiting with the loyal customers who stopped by the store—while many called it “the gas station,” local kids referred to it as “the candy store.”
In 1989, Joyce began a seventeen-year career with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department. She started as a dispatcher and later retired as Jail Supervisor in 2007. She deeply valued her time with the department, developing lasting relationships with many deputies and colleagues. Her dedication and strong work ethic earned her the respect of those she worked alongside.
Outside of work, Joyce loved crocheting and made many blankets and scarves for family and friends. She also enjoyed woodworking, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, and raising cattle on her farm. In her later years, Joyce found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She spent countless hours playing solitaire and rarely missed an NBA or NFL game on TV. She loved tending to her houseplants, visits with siblings, trips to the casino, and time spent on the patio enjoying a smoke. These moments of peace and routine brought her comfort and happiness.
Above all, Joyce was a devoted daughter, sister, mom, aunt, "Grandma J," and a cherished friend to many. Her warmth, dedication, and quiet strength touched countless lives throughout the years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Gene and Thelma Hamilton; brother, Ken Hamilton.
Survivors include sons Darin Bitts of Blue Springs, Missouri and Jeral (Darcy) Hahn of Louisburg, Kansas; grandkids Korey (Dan) Bowden, Sierra Hahn, and Vance Hahn; step-grandchildren Chris (Katricia) Powers, Jennifer (Craig) Southard, and Jessica (Josh) Tovar; eleven great-grandchildren; sister Jeanie (Ray) Stidham of Neosho, Missouri; sister-in-law Kathy Hamilton of Lake Wales, Florida; along with many nieces and nephews.
