Shirley Hammond Obituary

Shirley M. Hammond, a cherished matriarch and valued member of her community, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025, at the age of 86. Born on November 23, 1938, Shirley lived a life rich with love, adventure, and devotion to her family.Shirley's career began at University College, where her keen skills and dedication laid a solid foundation for her later work. For 35 years, she devoted herself to John P. Stopen Engineering. Those who knew Shirley understood her vibrant spirit. She was an outgoing individual who always wore a smile, embodying a warmth that drew people to her. Her love for family was evident in all aspects of her life, and she passionately dedicated her time to nurturing her loved ones. Shirley and her beloved husband of 61 years, Joseph W. Hammond, shared many joyful memories riding their motorcycle. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Deborah (James) McLoughlin; son, Brian (Deborah) Hammond; sister, Patricia Carson; and her three grandsons, George A. (Samantha) McLoughlin II, Brian (Jillian Berti) Hammond, Chris (Beth) Hammond. She is also survived by her two granddaughters, Erin (Scott) Shoop, Jamie (Adam) Bradley. 16 great-grandchildren. She joins in eternal rest with her late husband Joseph, brother Robert Bailey, and sister Connie Pierce. Her legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to family will continue to inspire those she leaves behind. A visitation to honor Shirley will be held on September 22, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212.
