Obituary: Shirley Ann Hartman (1936–2025)
Shirley Ann Hartman, of Lebanon, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2025, at the age of 89. Born in Utica, New York, on October 29, 1936, Shirley lived a full and meaningful life devoted to family, service, and community.
Shirley's dedication and work ethic shone through in every role she held-from her early years as an operator with New York Tel to her time as co-owner and book keeper of Hartman landscaping, and later in her many years of service at her local library. There, she not only worked as a bookkeeper but also served proudly as President of the Board of Trustees, guiding and nurturing the library she so deeply loved.
A lifelong reader, Shirley found comfort and joy in books and was rarely without one nearby. She also enjoyed sewing, knitting, and camping, and was a devoted supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, contributing her time and heart to helping others grow.
Above all, Shirley was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her family was her greatest joy and her enduring legacy. She is survived by her sons Joe Hartman and David (Terri) Hartman; grandchildren Michael Hartman, Brandon (Samantha) Hartman, Corrine Syck, Lana (Chris) Stein, and Dana Lea; as well as four cherished great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Hartman; her grandchild, Sean Hartman; and her parents, Anna and Joseph Pietrase.
Shirley will be remembered for her kind spirit, quiet strength, and the countless ways she gave of herself to her family, her community, and her passions. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
