Shirley Ann Henderson, 91, of Lancaster Pennsylvania passed away peacefully on March 15, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. Born on July 4, 1934 to parents, the late Raymond and Pearl Meyers, Shirley spent her whole life in Lancaster County. Shirley attended and graduated from McCaskey High School where she met and later married her high school sweetheart John (Jack) Henderson in 1953.
Shirley lived for and deeply loved her family. She had two children, seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. Shirley embraced life fully, enjoying travel, cooking, flying, camping, hiking, and spending time with her many friends and church family. Shirley was well known for hosting large gatherings at “the farm,” especially the annual family reunions and Independence Day parties. She led a faithful Christian life and was an active member of her church Lift UCC(formerly St Peters UCC), where she was a Sunday School Teacher, Youth Group Leader and Consistory President.
Shirley spent many hours over the years caring for her young grandchildren and those she adopted as grandchildren, while simultaneously running a successful greenhouse business, famous for growing some of the finest tomatoes in Lancaster. She also was instrumental in establishing and running a Young Eagles program where local children were introduced to airplanes and experienced their first flights, as a way to foster interest in the aviation field.
In addition to her beloved husband of 72 years she is survived by her children, John Henderson Jr (wife Marilyn) and Jan McDavitt (husband James); her grandchildren: Max Henderson (wife Andrea), James McDavitt IV (wife Meaghan), Patrick McDavitt, Kira Henderson (fiancée Carlo Tomer), Allison Ryan (husband James), Katy Henderson (fiancée Calvin ) and Marcus Henderson; and six great grandchildren: James McDavitt V, Shea McDavitt, Charlotte McDavitt, Robert Henderson, Mallory Ryan and Rocco Tomer; as well as her brother Raymond Meyers Jr (wife Ann) and nephew Brad Meyers (wife Margaret) and adopted sister Connie Painter.
