Shirley J. Holtgrewe, a cherished homemaker and beloved matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2025, at the age of 96. Born on October 20, 1928, in Cincinnati, Shirley's life was a testament to unwavering love and dedication to her family.

Shirley was a proud graduate of Seton High School, where she cultivated the foundations of her character—kindness, resilience, and an enduring spirit. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a heartfelt commitment to her loved ones, creating a nurturing environment that was filled with joy and togetherness. Known for her upbeat personality, Shirley brought light into every room she entered, and her family-oriented nature made every holiday at home a special occasion to remember.

She was the beloved mother of Joseph M. Holtgrewe and a supportive mother-in-law to Terry Carr and Theresa Holtgrewe. As a grandmother, she leaves behind a legacy of love, pride, and support to her grandchildren: Shannon, Casey (Angela), Peter (Lindsay), Luke, Tarin, Julie, Kelsey, and Joseph H. Furthermore, she reveled in the joys of great-grandmotherhood to James, Andrew, Caroline, Katie, Mikayla, Abby, William, Kathleen, Jeremiah, Oakley, Ellie, Jace, Kyra, Braelynn, and Laikyn, each bringing a unique brightness to her life.

In addition to her family ties, Shirley is survived by her sister, Babs Carmosino, who shared in the wonderful memories of their lives together.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Fred and Dorothy Schaefer, her husband, Wilfrid Holtgrewe, her daughter Jenny Carr, and her son Patrick Holtgrewe, who now hold a treasured place in her heart.

Visitation will be Monday, August 25th, 9 AM until 9:45 A.M. at St. Dominic Church (Gathering Space) followed by a mass at 10 AM.

Shirley's life was marked not only by her dedication to her family but also by her affection for her dogs, which brought her endless joy and companionship. Her proudest accomplishment, however, remained her family, who will carry forward her legacy of love, warmth, and unwavering support.

As those who knew her fondly remember her laughter, spirit, and nurturing heart, Shirley Holtgrewe will be profoundly missed and always remembered as a guiding light in the lives of her loved ones.
