Shirley Huff Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by South Park Funeral Home and Cemetery - Pearland on Mar. 31, 2026.
Shirley Ann Huff, 79, of Pearland, Texas, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. To her late husband, Samuel, she was affectionately known as Shirl or Baby, tender names that reflected the deep love they shared throughout their 55 years together. To everyone else whose lives she touched - her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the many she cared for along the way - she was simply Mom, Granny, or Grams, titles she wore with pride and joy.

Born on August 11, 1946, in Port Arthur, Texas, Shirley was the beloved daughter of Pierre L. and Ella Mae Abshire. She married the love of her life, Samuel Hardy Huff, on February 14, 1965. Their marriage was a true partnership built on faith, devotion, and a love that radiated through their home and community. Together, they created a life centered on God, family, and service to others.

A dedicated homemaker, Shirley poured her heart into raising her children and caring for countless others. Before becoming a grandmother, she babysat children not out of necessity, but because she delighted in giving her family a few "extras" and because she simply loved little ones. There was always at least one child in her home who wasn't hers by birth but was certainly hers in heart.

For 53 years, Shirley was a devoted member of Alvin Missionary Baptist Church. Her faith was the steady foundation of her life, and she served joyfully in many roles - nursery worker, Sunday school teacher, and food planning committee director. She lived her faith quietly but powerfully, often reminding those she loved, "Just pray. God will lead you in making the correct decision."

Shirley had a gift for creating beauty in simple things. She was a talented seamstress, a lover of crafts, and someone who took pride in keeping a spotless home. She enjoyed Find-A-Word puzzles, card games, and board games, especially when shared with family. In recent years, she found joy in connecting with loved ones on Facebook and exploring new ideas on Pinterest.

Becoming "Granny" was one of the greatest joys of her life. She adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and her pride in her two children was unwavering. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Monica Streeter, and husband, Randall of Pearland, and her son, Andrew "Andy" Huff of Pearland. Her grandchildren - Nik Powers (partner Cahlia), Robbie Streeter (wife Laci), Cole Streeter, Adrianna Streeter, and Zachary Teague - were her pride and joy. She also treasured her great-grandchildren: Kali Johnson, Brantley Streeter, Walker Streeter, Rhyder Streeter, and Rowen Streeter.

Shirley is also survived by her siblings: sisters Liz Abshire and Renee Dean (husband Pat), and brother Mike Abshire (wife Carol). Her extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews will remember her for her warmth, her laughter, and the way she made everyone feel welcome. She is preceded in death by her parents and her siblings, Ronnie Abshire, Junior Lee Abshire, Dalton Abshire, Rufus Abshire, and Euella Abshire.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers who supported Shirley in her final months. Ben, Jenny, and Sara from Memorial Hermann Southeast provided exceptional medical care with gentleness and respect, offering comfort not only to Shirley but to her family as well. The family is also profoundly thankful for the devoted staff of Magnolia Hospice Care - including Sophie, Rachel, Erica, Danielle, Emily, and Lupe - whose kindness, patience, and tender presence brought peace to Shirley's final days. Their dedication will always be remembered with heartfelt appreciation.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 pm at Alvin Missionary Baptist Church. A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 10:00 am at the church, followed by burial at South Park Cemetery. Services are under the direction of South Park Funeral Home in Pearland.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Shirley Huff's memory to the Alvin Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund (2102 West Lang St., Alvin, TX 77511).
