Shirley Smith Kube, 96 of Broad Run, VA died June 7, 2005 at the Fauquier Hospital. She was born July 2, 1908 in Melrose, Massachusetts a daughter of the late Oren Henry Smith and Ethel Ford Smih. She was preceded in death by her husband- Harold D. Kube; her sister- Madeline Gerrish of Melvin Village, New Hampshire and a grandson- Kevin M. Kube. Mrs. Kube was a graduate of Simmons College in Boston, Mass. She and her husband were married on August 25, 1934 and spent their early years in Arlington, VA. In 1950 they purchased Fauquier Farm located at New Baltimore, where she lived until her death. She was very active in the day to day management of the farm. Along with her husband and two sons, they built a small but select group of Polled Hereford Cattle. In the 1960's, she developed an active interest in golf. Shirley was a participant in tournaments and a chairman of the ladies golf division at Fauquier Springs Country Club. She was an active member at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church at Catlett for nearly fifty years. She was also a member of the Cedar Run Garden Club, and an active volunteer at Fauquier Hospital and the Fauquier County Public Library. She was the best wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and served as a guiding light and inspiration to all of her family and friends. She is survived by her two sons- Robert F. Kube of Broad Run and Thomas S. Kube and his wife- Barbara H. Kube of Doylestown, PA; four grandchildren- Kurt M. Kube and wife LuAnn of Frisco, TX, Bradford Y. Kube, Arlington, VA, Kimberly Kube Crowe and husband Daryl of Warrenton, and Tricia Kube Veverka and husband Keith of Doylestown, PA and five great grandchildren and a special friend- Peggy Kube Dearden of Warrenton. A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10 at 11:00 AM at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Catlett by Rev. Roma Maycock. Interment at Warrenton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 8538 Greenwich Rd., Catlett, VA 20119, Fauquier Hospital, 500 Hospital Drive, Warrenton, VA 20186 or to Fauquier SPCA, PO Box 733, Warrenton, VA 20188.
