Shirley MacFarlane (Golby), age 87, of Weymouth passed away Saturday August 23, 2025. Shirley was born and raised in Johnstown PA and joined the Navy after high school where she served for three years in Philadelphia PA. Shirley worked in real estate after her military service in the Navy, most recently with DeWolfe Co. in relocation services in Lexington, MA before she retired. Shirley was a proud veteran and an even more proud mother.
Shirley was married to Wilson “Joe” MacFarlane for 61 years at the time of his passing in December 2020. Joe was also a Navy veteran, serving 21 years and retiring as a Chief Petty Officer in 1974. They were married in Philadelphia in 1959. They raised their family in Maplewood, NJ, and moved back to Weymouth in 1987, where they previously lived while serving in the Navy.
Shirley was an active member in the community, volunteering for Weymouth Meals on Wheels for over 10 years, and was an active member with her husband Joe at the Lutheran Church of the Cross in Hanover MA.
Shirley is survived by her sons Harvey MacFarlane of PA and Robert MacFarlane and his wife Irma of NJ, his grandchildren Amanda, Ashley, Brittany, Katelyn, and Katherine, and many great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the funeral service for Shirley on September 5, 2025 at 10:30am in the Lutheran Church of the Cross located at 77 Rockland St. Hanover, MA 02339. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the church for the new front entrance project. Burial with Military Honors will immediately follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne, MA. Funeral arrangements for Shirley are in the care of C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located in Weymouth.
