Shirley McBurney Obituary

Shirley Ann Nash McBurney, 89, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away on October 5, 2025, in Augusta, Georgia.
Shirley was born in Wilkes County, Georgia to Brosier and Maybell Nash on November 29, 1935. She went to school in Tignall and Washington, Georgia, and High school at Richmond Academy in Augusta. She graduated from Montreat College in North Carolina.
Shirley married James Boyd McBurney, formerly of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on August 19, 1966 in Augusta, Georgia. They have lived in Augusta all of their married life.
Shirley taught school in Hazard, Kentucky, Panama City, Florida, and Augusta for many years.
Shirley was a member of The Assembly at Augusta and a former member of Augusta First Assembly of God, Presbyterian Church West, Greene Street Presbyterian Church, and Crawford Avenue Baptist Church, all in Augusta.
Shirley is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Calvin, her sister Laura Jeanette, and her nephew Barry Playford.
Shirley is survived by James, her husband of 59 years, her children, John Nash McBurney (Michelle) and Jenna McBurney Davis (Kelly), grandchildren Jonathan Wall (Joy), Ann Smoker (Nathan), Maggie McBurney, Mollie McBurney, and great grandchildren James & Zelda Rae.
Shirley wanted any memorial gifts to be given to "the poor and Israel."
The family of Shirley wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our family at The Assembly at Augusta, Cornerstone Assembly, Bible Deliverance Temple, and BGM Word & Prayer Circle.
Funeral services will be held at 4:00 PM Friday, October 10, 2025, at The Assembly at Augusta with Pastor Brandon Lanier officiating. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Fairhaven Funeral Home.
