Obituary published on Legacy.com by Yampa Valley Funeral Home on Sep. 29, 2023.
Shirley June Montieth was born in
Oak Creek, Colorado on June 13th, 1936 to Michael and Nona Kuntz. She was the youngest of 5 children, three brothers and one sister. They lived in Deer Park and went to school in Haybro. Sometime later they moved to Oak Creek.
Shirley met Vincent Goeddel and they were married in May 1952 when she was just 15. They lived in Oak Creek and they had 5 children, Bobby, Becky, Dean and two babies, Ronald Lee and Gary Gene, who passed at a young age.
Later, she met Edward Montieth in Steamboat Springs where they worked together at the Harbor Hotel. Shirley was a waitress there and told stories of all the hours she spent working in high heels. They moved to
Costa Mesa, California in 1969 and were married in November,1972. They had one daughter, Shannon. The family moved back to Colorado in January 1984 and bought the Elks Tavern. Shirley and Ed ran the Elks together until Ed passed away in 2014. Shirley continued to run the bar until she sold it in 2018. Shirley made an enormous number of friends throughout the years. She held each of those friends close to her heart.
Shirley loved playing any kind of card game, especially cribbage. She enjoyed playing marbles (aggravation) and was even known to cheat a little here and there when she thought she could get away with it. She was a member of the pinochle club in Yampa where she made many friends as well. She always had a joke to tell, sometimes a little inappropriate, but always left you laughing. She was one of the best at telling a joke!
Shirley loved animals of all kinds and enjoyed sitting on her deck in the summer, watching the hummingbirds. She loved country music, especially George Strait.
Shirley left us on September 5th, she was 87 years old.
She left behind, sons Bobby and Dean Goeddel, daughter Shannon Bostock, son-in-law Delbert Bostock, grandchildren Michael, Lorren, Kevin, Bryon, Joseph, Jacob and Jordan, great grandchildren Emili, Eve, McKenzie and Braylon. Along with Sister in laws, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Ed, daughter Becky, her 2 baby boys, brothers John, Bill and Boze and sister Mary, her mother and father Mike and Nona Kuntz.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 28th at the Oak Creek Cemetery.
