Shirley Ruth Newport

Our precious and dearly loved mother, Shirley Ruth Newport, age 85, of Calhoun, GA, went home to be with the LORD on Monday, August 14, 2023.
Shirley was born on December 6, 1937 to the late Arthur and Ada Norris in West Robbins, TN. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren, and family. She was the rock, strength, and support to her family. Shirley was always in prayer for everyone's needs and was a true example of Christ's love. She was the essence of a virtuous woman and her desire was to please God in all of her ways. She loved cooking for her large family, who could never wait to eat some of her famous chicken and dumplins. Her favorite past times were drawing and reading her bible.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, JC Newport; son, Zendall JC Newport.
Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Pearl Newport of Resaca, GA, Jeffery and Mary Newport of Chatsworth, Jerry and Kerry Newport of Calhoun, GA, and Renee Newport of Calhoun, GA; sons, Ronnie Newport of Calhoun, GA, Danny Newport of Calhoun, GA, Benny Newport of Calhoun, GA, Vince Newport of Calhoun, GA, Jason Newport of Calhoun, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Ruth and Chris Boss of Dalton, GA, Angela and Jim Hawkins of Calhoun, GA, and Pam and Scott King of Calhoun, GA; brothers, Hubert, Ken, Jack, and Wendall; sisters, Joyce, Janice, Judy, Kathy, Lovell, Lela, and Denise; 28 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; 9 great great-grandchildren
Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Shirley Ruth Newport will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. from the chapel of Peeples Funeral Home with Rev. Ronnie Chandler, Rev. Jimmy Black, and Rev. Shane Gibson officiating. Interment will follow at Fidelle Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.
