Shirley H. Onderdonk

Shirley H. Onderdonk, 90, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Bickford Senior Living, Suffolk, Va.

Shirley graduated from Falmouth High School in 1952, and from Mary Washington College in 1985 with a degree in Music. She was a piano teacher for 30 years and the Organist and Choirmaster at St. George's Episcopal Church (1969-1981), Aquia Episcopal Church (1986-1991), and Organist at Fredericksburg Baptist Church (1991-2014). Shirley was a proud member of Fredericksburg Baptist Church as a Deacon, Handbell Choir Director, Maranatha Choir Chaperone, Mission Activities, and Sunday School Class participant.

Shirley's hobbies consisted of painting, which adorn many of her family and friends' homes, needlework, and travel.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, David C. Onderdonk of Milford, Va.; daughter Kathryn L. Perlewitz (David) of Suffolk, Va.; loving grandchildren, Stephen H. Kerr of Norfolk, Va., Clay Onderdonk of Baltimore, Md., and Leah Wood (Marshall) of Lovettsville, Va.; nephew, Craig Hedrick; and niece, Sara (Hedrick) Lile (Adam).

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, George Carlton Onderdonk; parents, Elmer C. and Bessie C. Hedrick; brother, Charles C. Hedrick; and daughter, Susan E. Onderdonk.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., on Saturday, June 21, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, followed by reception in the Social Hall.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to the Organ Restoration Fund or other Ministries of the Church.
