Shirley Ann Ortiz

Shirley Ann Ortiz, a beloved soul who filled the world with laughter and love, passed away on May 1, 2024, in Ricardo, Texas. She was born on February 29, 1948, in the quaint town of Ionia, Michigan. Shirley's presence brought warmth and light to all those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of everyone she encountered.
 
Shirli and Johnny were married for 24 years and later divorced; until they found one another again.  Although they never remarried, they were inseparable; and found joy and happiness as they began their second chance together. Life seemed perfect until the day her beloved Johnny fell ill, leaving him unable to walk or speak again. Shirli’s unwavering devotion to Johnny remained as she cared for him at home for 14 more years.

 

Shirley will be fondly remembered for her zest for life and her unwavering love for her family. She adored spending time with her grandchildren and her cherished furbaby, Milo. Shirley's face would light up with joy whenever she was out fishing or cooking up a storm in the kitchen. Her passion for cooking, especially during Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner preparations, was unmatched. She made it known to everyone that her kitchen was her domain while she worked her magic. 
 
 Known for her spirited nature, Shirley was an outspoken and spunky lady who fearlessly stood up for what she believed in. Her lively personality drew people to her, and she had a knack for finding herself in amusing predicaments like being in "Facebook jail," which always brought a smile to those who knew her best.  Of course, we can’t forget how she loved those scratch-off tickets.

 

In this time of profound loss, Shirley leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will be carried on by her family.   They take solace in the countless memories they shared with Shirley and the valuable lessons she imparted.
 
 Shirley Ann Ortiz will forever remain alive in our hearts through the treasured moments we shared with her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman whose spirit knew no bounds, let us find comfort in knowing that she now rests peacefully, watching over us with that same twinkle in her eye.
 
 She is preceded in death by her sons, Michael Ramirez and Vidal Billy Ramirez; parents, Arthur Harger and Ida Harger; brothers, Kenneth Harger, Arthur Harger, Jr., Eddie Harger, and Charles “Chuck” Harger; sister Delores Harger; brothers-in-law, Dick Whipple and Michael Heaton; and, sister-in-law Cheri Harger.

 

Among those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Barbara Ortiz, Jodi (Arturo) Trevino, Brandi Ortiz, and Kristi Ortiz; sisters, Marti Whipple, Juanita Heintzelman, Carol Heaton, and Nancy (Phil) Cloud; brother, Larry (Margie) Harger; sisters-in-law, Beverly Harger, Roseanna Ortiz, and Mary Hellen Rubio; brothers-in-law, Mario Bernal and Juan Rubio; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

 

The family will receive condolences beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Turcotte-Piper Mortuary; with a celebration of life at 12:30 p.m.  Services will conclude that afternoon.
