Shirley Oshinsky Obituary
Shirley Alice Oshinsky (Coughenour), age 88, went to her heavenly home on January 5, 2024. She is survived by a family that she always made sure knew how much she loved them; husband William "Bill", daughters Colleen (Kenneth) Bennett, Carla Kaiser, brother Gary (Rose) Coughenour, grandchildren Brett (Hallie) Kaiser, Lauren Rump, Halle Rump. Shirley was born on February 19,1935 in Rowes Run, PA to parents Alfred Coughenour and Olivia Thompson. There, she met her beloved Bill, who she would say hello to on the school bus. When they were teenagers, Bill would walk miles along the train tracks, even in the snow, to visit his sweetheart. They were married on July 21, 1956 and celebrated 67 years of marriage; together in love for a total of 75 years. Shirley and Bill moved to Cleveland, OH in 1956 before eventually settling in Streetsboro in 1961. Here, they would raise their two daughters and become lifelong residents. She was a member of Streetsboro United Methodist Church. Shirley was an industrial sewing machine operator at Euclid Garment in Kent for 31 years and her family's seamstress for many more. She loved to sew and share her designs with others. Throughout the pandemic, she handmade dozens of cloth masks for family, friends, and neighbors.
Her beauty was noted by everyone who encountered her. As a young woman, she participated in the Miss Uniontown beauty pageant in Uniontown, PA. Her love for beautiful clothes, shoes, jewelry, and makeup was evident in the impeccable style and glamour she will be remembered for. Shirley would say she loved nothing more than to be with her family. She would proudly declare "I love my family" when they were all gathered together. She enjoyed many summer vacations to Myrtle Beach, Christmas Eve dinners, backyard cookouts, and hours of laughter all with her family. Shirley lit up any room with her warmth and wit. She always had a joke and a kind smile to make any person, and often even strangers, feel welcome. Her light and laughter will live on in all of the cherished memories she is the star of. Calling hours will be Thursday January 11, 2024 from 5 to 7 PM and on Friday Janaury 12, 2024 from 10:00 Am until time of the 11:00 AM Funeral Service at the Shorts Spicer Crislip Funeral Homes Streetsboro Chapel. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery Streetsboro, Ohio. Condolences and memories of Shirley may be shared with her family at www.sscfuneralhomes.com.
