Shirley Ann Pfouts

Shirley Ann Duerr Pfouts, age 85, formerly of Scio, Brewster and Massillon, passed away Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Mercy Medical Center, Canton, Ohio.
Born May 17, 1939, in Dover, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Gerald W. Duerr and Lulu Johnson Duerr. Shirley was in the first graduating class at Tusky Valley High School in 1957. She worked at the Scio Pottery, Scio Pottery Museum, Lawson's and later retired from JC Penney's. She and her husband Fred moved from Scio to Brewster in 2005, where they worked together delivering Meals on Wheels.
Shirley was a former member of the Scio VFD Auxiliary and was the beloved "cake lady" for the fire departments monthly roast beef dinners. She was also a member of the former Scio Civic Club, the Scio United Methodist Church and their Sunday School Joy Class. Shirley played the piano and accordion and enjoyed going to polkas and square dances. Shirley had a warm, welcoming spirit and loved shopping and vacations with her friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Eugene Pfouts on May 20, 2022. They were married on October 20, 1957.
Shirley is survived by her children Denese (Bryan) Majors of North Lawrence and Mike (Chris) Pfouts of Mansfield, her grandchildren Felecia (Danny) Lilly, Ryan (Courtney) Majors, Cortney (Darrel) Johnson and Ridge (Madison) Majors, her great grandchildren Oakland, Mila, Declan, Devin and Jax, her sister Mary Alice (Paul) Ladrach of Dover and her brother Gene (Ruby) Duerr of Beach City.
Services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 1 pm in Koch Funeral Home, 101 W Main St, Scio with Rev LuAnn Youngman officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Scio. Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home from 11 am – 1pm. Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Scio VFD, PO Box 342, Scio, Ohio 43988.
