Ms. Shirley “Aunt Stick” Ann Leftwich Raycraft, age 80, of Mount Airy, passed away Friday evening, October 17, 2025, at Mission Hospital in Asheville. She was born in Surry County, September 12, 1945, to the late Aubrey Leftwich and Kathryn Dowell. She was a loving mother, sister, and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Shirley was a woman of great faith, strong work ethics and one who loved her country dearly. She started her career in the US Navy as a reporter, then later sold insurance for a few years. Left to cherish her memories are her son and daughter-in-law, Chuck Raycraft and Jovy; brother, Gary Leftwich; many dear nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by sisters, Martha Haynes, Barbara Morton; brothers, Steve Haynes, Jerry Leftwich, Rev. Rawley “Dink” Lee Haynes, Jr. A graveside service to honor her life will be held Saturday, October 25, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Oakdale Cemetery, with the Rev. Don Fellows officiating. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Moodys of Mount Airy is respectfully serving the Raycraft family.
