KEWANEE-Shirley L. Sawickis, 93, of Kewanee, died Thursday, March 23, 2023 at her home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 30 at Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee. Celebrant will be Fr. Johndamaseni Zilimu. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29 at Rux Funeral Home in Kewanee with recitation of the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to Abilities Plus or the Kewanee Senior Citizens Center.
She was born July 13, 1929 in Cambridge, IL, the daughter of Leland and Ruth (Hepner) Daniels. She married Donald V. Sawickis on May 5, 1951 at Visitation Church in Kewanee and he preceded her in death on August 22, 2018. Survivors include her three daughters; Carol Mulder of Atkinson, Janice (David) DeFord of Friendswood, TX and Chris (Mark) Sexton of Davenport, two sisters, Joyce Lane of Clay City, KY and Unita Tietz of Country Club Hills, IL, nine grandchildren; Dustin (Jenny) Mulder, Matt (Anneliese) Mulder, Tyler Mulder, Shelby Mulder, Jason, Ashley and Allison DeFord, Casie (Josh) Morehead and Lindsey Christiansen, eleven great grandchildren, Dominic, Owyn and Ellie Mulder, Kadence Sexton, Lincoln and Grant Morehead, Asher, Griffin and Fern Mulder, Jude Dohogne and Aylah Pridemore and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Don Daniels
Shirley graduated from Wethersfield High School in 1947 and had worked at Osco Drug and the 5 & 10 Store in Kewanee. She was also a farmer's wife and was instrumental in the operation of the family farm. She was a member of Saint John Paul II Parish in Kewanee and a member of the Altar & Rosary Society at St. John Catholic Church in Galva. She had also been a 4-H leader and a member of the Burns Township Home Extension and the Burns Busy Bustlers. She thoroughly enjoyed her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend a very special thank you to Compassus and the aids from the Henry County Health Department for their care.
