Mark Sawickis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Golnick-Schueneman Funeral Home on Feb. 18, 2026.
Mark A. Sawickis died at his home on February 15, 2025, at the age of 58.

He was born on September 12, 1967, to Edward and Bette Sawickis, who preceded him in death. Mark grew up with a deep love of music and a curiosity about the world.

Mark graduated from Wethersfield High School and went on to earn a finance degree from Illinois State University. He worked as a cost accountant at Diamond-Star Motors in Bloomington-Normal, and later at Walmart in Kewanee. His proudest accomplishment, however, was founding the heavy metal band Impetigo with his college friends, a project that connected him to fans across the globe.

Mark will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul with a deep love for heavy metal music, Asian culture, sports, movies, and the online communities where he formed lasting friendships. He lived in Singapore and other Asian countries before returning to Kewanee, where he cared for his mother and could be found visiting her almost daily when she was later confined to Kewanee Care. Through every high and low, Mark maintained a quick wit, an easy smile and a genuine concern for others. His kindness and humor left an impression on everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his siblings, Linda and John, their spouses, two nephews, many cousins, close friends in Kewanee, and a worldwide community of Impetigo fans who will remember him with affection.

No formal service is planned at this time.

"The greatest tribute to his life is to offer love and compassion to others, especially those experiencing difficulties."
