Shirley M. Schaffer

RUTHERFORDTON, NC - Mrs. Shirley (Stanton) Schaffer, 92, of Rutherfordton, North Carolina, beloved wife of the late Quinton A. Schaffer Jr., passed away peacefully on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, surrounded by her loving family.
Born and raised in Dallas, Pennsylvania, Shirley was the daughter of the late Pearl and Leslie Stanton. From PA, she was a long-time Massachusetts resident, in retirement she moved down south to sunny Naples, Florida for over 10 years, and for the last 7 years, she resided in Rutherfordton, NC.
Shirley was known to be a trailblazer. Raised on a farm, Shirley learned the rewards of a dedicated work ethic from a young age. She climbed her way up the corporate ladder when she was employed at a furniture store chain, where she worked for 10 years. Her professional life was greatly accelerated with the opening of her own business. Shirley owned Community Opticians for 15 years, locations include Lawrence, Lynn, Haverhill and Brockton. But if you were to ask Shirley herself, her most important and favorite job was traveling. Her home was a museum of goods from her travels across the globe and she had abundance of stories from her trips, her most recent being to Greece.
All who came in contact with Shirley became completely enamored by her independence and resilience. She had this vivacious gravitational pull on those around her. She was filled with compassion and generosity, always donating to charities over the holiday season. Shirley was a fighter; her dynamo presence will be greatly missed by her family and friends spanning across the east coast.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Quinton (Skip) Schaffer and his wife, Sharon of Peabody, MA and Robert Stanton and his wife, Regina of Sweet Valley, PA, her grandsons, Christopher Schaffer of Peabody, MA and Jonathan Hornibrook of North Carolina and Bobby Stanton of Harvey's Lake, PA. She was the mother of late Barbara Lynn Hornibrook and the sister of late Warren Stanton and Geraldine Kline.
