Shirley "Sis" (Proulx) Sheehan, age 85, a longtime resident of Dracut, passed away at her home on Saturday, October 25, 2025 with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Kenneth R. Sheehan, Sr.
She was born in Lowell on March 21, 1940 and was one of nine children of the late Joseph A. and Josephine J. (Vaillancourt) Proulx. She was raised and educated in Lowell and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School.
Shirley worked as a key punch machine operator for the Internal Revenue Service for over 20 years; she then worked in food service at Greater Lowell Technical High School and most recently at Dunkin Donuts in Collinsville.
Shirley was a longtime active parishioner of Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish and enjoyed volunteering at the food pantry, always showing up to help.
She was an avid bingo and card player; she also enjoyed, cooking, sewing, and taking trips to Las Vegas, creating memories on Christmas Eve, Thanksgiving, family cookouts and breakfast with the girls. Shirley took it upon herself to never miss her grandchildren's sporting events, graduations, or a first day on the job. She was always there to show her support, excitement and love.
It was her pride and joy hosting birthday celebrations, dinners, bingo and card nights in her home, anything that would bring her family together. She had a special way of making anyone and everyone feel loved, welcomed and at home when around her. She defines love, she left a long lasting impression on everyone she crossed paths with, especially her loved ones. The love she showed and taught is irreplaceable.
Shirley is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Mark Pekkala; a son, Kenneth R. Sheehan, Jr. and his fiancé Lisa Jones; a sister, Elaine Therriault; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Daniel and Rita Proulx, Joseph and Linda Proulx and David and Kathy Proulx; six grandchildren, Nicole, Paige, Kyra, Tyler, Victoria and Jake; two great grandchildren, Angelina and Gianna; her former daughter-in-law, Shawna Sheehan and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her granddaughter, Natalie Pekkala, brother-in-law, Maurice Therriault and four brothers, Arthur, Richard, Ronald and Donald Proulx.
Relatives and friends will be received at the TYNGSBOROUGH FUNERAL HOME, 4 Cassaway Dr., Tyngsborough on Saturday, Nov. 1, from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated immediately following at 12 noon at Ste. Marguerite D'Youville Parish, 1340 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut. Committal services in St. Joseph Cemetery, Chelmsford. Those wishing may make a donation in her memory to the
