Shirley A. Shugars

Shirley A. Shugars, the loving daughter of David Mims, Sr. and Lagusta Caver Mims, was born on September 15, 1957, in Anniston, Alabama. Shirley lived a life full of love, laughter, and dedication to her family and community.

Shirley started her spiritual journey at an early age and attended 17th Street Baptist Church. She received her formal education in the Anniston City School system and graduated from Anniston High School. Shirley was a hard worker and after high school, she found gainful employment as a cook in the restaurant industry.

Along life's journey, Shirley met the love of her life, Charlie Shugars. For fifty years, the built a life filled with companionship, cherished memories, and countless laughs. Shirley found immense joy in the simple pleasures of life-whether it was time spent playing bingo or humming along to the smooth tunes of her favorite singer, Keith Sweat.

On Tuesday, November 18, 2025, Shirley completed her earthly journey and entered eternal rest while surrounded by her loved ones. She is preceded in death by her parents, David and Lagusta Mims; daughter, LaQuisha Mims; brothers, David Mims, Jr. and Eddie Mims; and sister, Leola Godhigh.

Shiley's precious memories will forever be treasured by her husband, Charlie Shugars; children, Jarvis Mims, Terrance (Norlisha) Mims, Jennifer Mims, and Charlie (Jan) Shugars; grandchildren, Zariya Mims, Jarvis Mims, Taliyah Peeler, Talaytha Peeler, Ja'Quana Johnson, Jamier Johnson, Ja'Yuana Johnson, Ja'Luana Mims, and Jaxon Shugars; sisters, Rosie Berry, Patricia Mims, Lovetta Jenkins, and Linda Mims; sister-in-law, Sharon Mims; brother-in-law, Percy Godhigh; and a host of cousins, aunts, uncles, and other family members.

Shirley was a source of inspiration and joy to all who knew her and will be remembered for her warm smile and compassionate heart. Her family and friends will miss her deeply.
