Shirley Ann Swenson

Shirley Swenson passed away peacefully in mid September. She was born on a farm near Thief River Falls, MN . She was an excellent student and went on to graduate from Lincoln High School with Honors. She attended Macalester/Northwestern School of Nursing and finished her RN in 1956. During this time she met her beloved Jim and they married in 1958. Following graduation she worked at Northwestern Hospital ( now Abbott) and eventually became the Head Nurse for Orthopedics, supporting Jim, while he attended medical school. She and Jim had 62 wonderful years together during which they raised their 3 children. She volunteered for many years at both church and the kids' schools and then she returned to help Jim with his medical practice. Shirley is survived by her three children, Clark (Valerie), Julie (Dan), and Jill (Paul) as well as her 7 precious grandchildren Sam, Rachel, Mike, Matt, Zach, Max and Anna. She is additionally survived by her twin sister, Beverly and many friends. Memorials can be sent to Normandale Lutheran Church or VEAP.org (Community Food Shelf).. Services will be held on December 16th at 1:30 p.m. at the Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel with visitation starting at Noon.
