Shirley Elizabeth Johnston Thayer, age 89, a native of Vermont and resident of Houma, LA, passed away on Monday, March 23, 2026.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Dawnette T. Nosworthy (Carlos); her son, Gregory Thayer "Cindy"; her grandchildren, Gregory "Chucky" (April), Carlos II "Boobear" (Ari), Andreanna "Nana" and Jenny Thayer; her great-grandchildren, Trey, Hunter, Colton, Cleo "CeCe" and Winry "Win-Win"; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in passing by her parents, Joseph Johnston and Mary Donley Johnston; her daughter, Victoria Virgin; and her siblings, Ruth, Lawrence, Gordon, Bobby, Jack.

As her daughter and son, we honor a remarkable woman — a loving mother, devoted grandmother, and cherished great-grandmother whose kindness, strength, and wisdom shaped our lives in ways words can barely express. She filled our home with warmth, comfort, and a love that will forever stay in our hearts. Losing her has left an emptiness nothing can replace, but her lessons, her laughter, and the memories she created continue to guide us every day. We carry her spirit with us always, cherishing the bond we shared and honoring the legacy she leaves behind. We find peace knowing she is pain-free and at rest, surrounded by love.
