Shirley Dunbar Thomas, 95, of Carlisle formerly of Camp Hill and Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Friday September 26, 2005, at Claremont Nursing and Rehab Center. Born on July 15, 1930, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ralph H. Dunbar and Josephine (Murray) Dunbar. She was the loving wife of the late John Allen Thomas, with whom she shared 24 years of marriage.

A graduate of Meyers High School in Wilkes-Barre, Shirley lived a full and varied life. She was Director of Volunteers at the American Red Cross, a devoted Girl Scout leader and was in real estate sales. She was also involved in many other organizations volunteering her time.

Shirley was a gifted artist who expressed her creativity in many mediums. Additionally, she was an accomplished gardener who loved to spend time in her backyard garden. Her talents and passion for art and gardening enriched her life and brought joy to those around her. Shirley also enjoyed traveling abroad and entertaining family and friends.

She will be remembered as a devoted wife, a loving family member and a woman whose generosity, creativity and spirit of service touched many lives.

Shirley leaves behind her son, Ralph Thomas: her two daughters, Shirley Fertenbaugh and Nancy Scheingold; her seven grandchildren, Eric, Rachael, Mary Jo, Ismael, Cameron, Natashia and Tiana; her sister Ethel (Rusty) Blaum; her five great-grandchildren; and many extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, David Thomas.

Per her wishes, there will be no services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society near you, or to a charity of your choice.
