Shirley "Shirl" VandePol, age 88 of McBain, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2025 at the Curry House Assisted Living in Cadillac. Shirl was born on October 14, 1937 in Highland Township, Osceola County, MI to Minard and Mary (Roede) Ouwinga. She married Bill VandePol on October 12, 1956.
Shirl was a homemaker and secretary/bookkeeper for B&R Heating for many years. She was a member of Vogel Center CRC where she played organ for a long time. Shirl enjoyed gardening, knitting, fixing puzzles, doing Bible crosswords, hunting and fishing. She also loved flowers, watching birds, and the Pistons, and the Tigers.
She is survived by her children Dave (Sue) VandePol, Marilee (Todd) Benson, Sandy (Greg) Pluger, Marcia (Randy) Koopman, Pat (Dan) Schoo and Jack (Jacie) VandePol, 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, siblings Don Ouwinga, Jim (Bev) Ouwinga, Roger (Kay) Ouwinga and Ethel Dennis, as well as many other surviving relatives.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband Bill VandePol, her parents, her mother and father in-law Jake and Rula VandePol, brother in-laws Dean Dennis, Rich Trumpie, Bernie VandePol, Herm VandePol, and sister in-law; Marian Ouwinga.
Private family services have taken place; burial has been made in the Vogel Center cemetery. Memorial contributions can be directed to Hospice of Michigan. The family is being served by the Burkholder Family Funeral Home in McBain. Thoughts and prayers can be expressed to the family by visiting the online obituary at burkholderfunerals.com.
