It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Shirley Linda (Barber) Wells, 80 years old, who left us peacefully on October 27, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on May 7, 1945, in Reedsville, OH, Shirley lived a full life, full of love, laughter and generosity. She was known for her kind spirit, unwavering strength, and deep care she showed to everyone who crossed her path. Her warmth, wisdom and sense of humor brightened the lives of family and friends alike.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend, and her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She will be remembered for her kindness, being a Sunday school teacher, daycare provider, the care given when she was a nurse, and for the legacy of love she leaves behind.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Franklin Osmond Wells; two sisters, Debbie Channels and Sue Morris; her five children, Frankie Hackathorn (Dan Thompson), Tammy (Jeff Cowdery), David (Brandi Wells), Melinda Hayman (Fiancé Steven Phillips), Melissa (William Morris); 13 grandchildren, Anthony Tolliver (AJ), Brittany Tolliver, Marty Tolliver, Caitlyn (Travis Stires), Nicolete Wells, Autumn Wells, David Wells (DJ), Josiah Hayman, Jonathan Hayman, Larissa (Luke Swiney), Josie (Bailee Van Kirk), Joshua Morris, Alexander Morris; seven great grandchildren, Kaileanna Tolliver, Natalie Cowdery, Tyeson Tolliver, Owen Hedrick, Wade Cowdery, Duke Stier, Adalyn Morris, and one on the way, Baby Gracie; and several nieces and nephews.
Special family members are Mariah Sprouse, Lincoln Griffith, Evelyn Griffith, Paige Gerlach, Kobe Moore, Joe Hackathorn, and Benjamin (Alisha) Barber.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her son-in-law, James Hayman and grandson, Chistopher Cowdery.
There was a private viewing with immediate family. Per Shirley’s wishes, there will be no funeral, and a celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
