Shirley Chandler Wheless passed away on January 7, 2026 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was born November 4, 1944 to Burt and Mildred Chandler in Joaquin, Texas. In her younger years she moved around various cities in Texas and graduated from Brazosport High School. She later settled down in Logansport when she married John Paul Wheless and started their family. Shirley went on to become a secretary for the DeSoto Parish Police Jury from which she eventually retired.
Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband John Paul, her parents Burt and Mildred, her son Tim Wheless, her sister, Judy Leffingwell, and a brother in law, Stephen Draper.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Jason Wheless and wife Billie Kay, Jerry Wheless, and her daughter, Amy Decker and husband Lee, her sister Norma Draper, and her brother in law, Robert Leffingwell. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Caleb, Nathan, Jacob and wife Katelyn, Katie and husband Cody, Ashley, Raina and husband Granvil, Kelsey, Aubrey, Jordan, McKenna, and Susie and husband Matt. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Skyler, Kennedy, Jackson, Avalee, Aspyn, Camdyn, Draeton, Conley, and June.
Shirley was an avid sports enthusiast. She loved the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Houston Astros, and the Dallas Cowboys. She always enjoyed going to the beach as well as on her cruises.
The family will be holding a graveside committal service at a later date.
