Born December 22, 1941, in the town of Carthage, a daughter of the late Clayton & Florence (Bast) Boshart, she graduated from Union Academy of Belleville. She married Joseph M. Widrick on December 22, 1959, at Lowville Mennonite Church, Dadville, with the late Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. The couple resided in Lowville after their marriage and has remained in the same community for their entire married life.
She was active in her church's Faithful Worker's Sewing Circle, taught Sunday School and Summer Bible School, served on various committees and served on the Church Council and Pastoral Care Team. She helped start the first Christian Women's Club in Lowville and served as chairperson. Shirley loved to read and journal daily. After her children left home, she worked at Widrick & Sons in the office for a few years. In 1974, she and her husband along with Sherwood and Rachel Widrick opened a pancake house which in 1981 became a restaurant and banquet facility called Deere Hill Restaurant on Route 12, Lowville.
After retirement, she and her husband, Joe, worked with Purcell Construction Company, consulting to furnish retirement homes in Lowville, Watertown, Plattsburg, Auburn and Buffalo. She is a member of Living Hope Ministries, Watson, NY.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Joseph, two sons and two daughters: Steven (Elnora) Widrick of Texas; Susan (Larry) Boldt of Lowville; Joseph J. (Donna) Widrick of Texas, and Cynthia Sauder of Marietta, PA. Three brothers surviving are Gerald (Verna Mae) Boshart, Clarence Center, NY; Richard Boshart, Glenfield; and Clifford Boshart and Darlene of Turin; a sister-in-law Sharon Boshart of Lowville; 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, several cousins, great- nieces and nephews.
Shirley was pre-deceased by 2 older brothers, Wayne E. Boshart, Harold L. Boshart, a sister-in-law Connie (Joslin) Boshart and a great-grandson, Silas J. Moser.
Shirley's life exemplified that of Christ through her caring, giving and compassion. She had a great gift of comforting others in times of need or loss and enjoyed celebrating new life by giving baby layettes to the families of newborns. Many people have been blessed by her generosity throughout her life. She will be greatly missed.
