CASTORLAND- Susanna L. Widrick, 95, of the Swiss Road, passed away on Monday, January 20, 2025 at Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January, 25, 2025 at the First Mennonite Church, New Bremen with Pastor Ed Steckly officiating. Spring burial will be in the church cemetery. There are no calling hours. Contributions may be made in memory of Susanna to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367 or First Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 417, Lowville, NY 13367.
Surviving are five children, Yvonne (Thomas) Smith of Waterville, Bruce (Linda) Widrick of Adams, Wanda West of Rodman, Sheila (Richard) Lawrence of Cape Vincent, and Sharlene (Kevin) Austin of Castorland; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Clayton who passed away on December 1, 1993; one brother and sister-in-law, Clarence (Frances) Lehman; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Verna (Howard) Roggie and Mary (Arthur) Mathys.
Susanna was born on October 9, 1929 in the Town New Bremen, a daughter of the late Erwin Z. and Lena Zehr Lehman. She attended Beaver Falls High School. On June 8, 1949 she married Clayton R. Widrick at the First Mennonite Church in New Bremen with Rev. Gordon Schrag officiating. Together the couple owned and operated a dairy farm in Adams for 28 years before moving to the Swiss Road in Castorland in June 1978. In 1990 they sold the home to their daughter, Sharlene, and moved to a home on State Route 126. Following her husband's death, she sold that home and moved to her home behind her daughter on the Swiss Road in 1995, where she resided for 29 years. She was currently a resident of Samaritan Keep Home.
Susanna was a member of the First Mennonite Church in New Bremen. She enjoyed reading, sewing, and gardening.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Lewis County General Hospital and Samaritan Keep Home. Susanna's family would also like to say a very special thank you to Samaritan Medical Center third floor nursing staff for their loving care and kindness shown to their mother during her stay at the hospital.
