She attended Utica/Marcy School of Nursing (SUNY/Utica), graduating with her nursing degree in 1977, all the while well working at Sunset Nursing Home in Boonville from 1972 to 1978. On December 2, 1978, she married Lonnie D. Widrick at Naumburg Mennonite Church. The couple then moved to Pennsylvania where they remained from 1978 to 1987, excluding one year when they lived in Corning, NY for voluntary service. While in Pennsylvania, they were active in the Hopewell Mennonite Church in Elverson, PA and Petra Christian Fellowship in New Holland, PA. Charlene worked at a number of area nursing homes while in PA, including Reading Rehabilitation Center. They were house parents for the Lighthouse Rehabilitation Center in Terre Hill, Pennsylvania for over a year before returning to upstate New York in 1987. Charlene then worked at Carthage Area Hospital cardiac unit, before working at the Lewis County Extended Care Nursing Home until 1996.
In 1996, a catastrophic illness left her a triple amputee and wheelchair bound. God was with her through many hospitalizations and health issues. She found the Lord to be a faithful, awesome God, and wishes everyone would know Him.
Lonnie and Charlene had three children, Jason, Zachary, and Isaac, who are all amazing gifts from God to them. She enjoyed attending many sporting events through the years, watching their sons play. Charlene enjoyed swimming, kayaking, fishing, hunting, oil painting, and flower and vegetable gardening. Above all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She was very blessed by the people in her life. A big thank you to all the friends and family who were a part of her life, you were very much appreciated.
