MISS SHIRLEY JO WITHERINGTON, age 89, of Chester, GA, died Tuesday, February 25, 2025, at Highlands Senior Living in Jefferson, GA under the loving care of Traditions Hospice.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, March 2, at Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery in Dexter, GA, with Rev. Tommy Roe officiating.
Shirley was born in Chester, GA on April 24, 1935, to the late Lillie Dawkins Witherington and George Albert Witherington. She was a lifelong member of Chester United Methodist Church and served as church secretary for many years. She was a 1953 graduate of Chester High School and later embarked on a long and productive career with the United States Postal Service. After 36 years of faithful and dedicated service at the post offices in Chester and Fort Valley, Shirley then spent the early years of her retirement working at the Mail Center in Dublin.
Shirley loved reading, doing jigsaw and word puzzles and watching basketball. She was a faithful and devoted member to her church and was a committed caregiver to her parents before their passing. Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her sisters, Mary Turner, Clarice Braswell, and Mozelle Jolley, her nephew, Frank Braswell, and her great nephew, Brett Vincent.
She is survived by her nieces – Sanda Means (Bill) of Atlanta, GA, Gayle Vincent (Keith) of Alpharetta, GA, Linda Bohannon of Eastman, GA, Tricia Greenlee (Jac) of Kennesaw, GA, and Lynn McCranie (Ronnie) of Winder, GA as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends after the services at Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery on Sunday, March 2.
