Shirley J Young (Jan) of The Villages, FL passed away on 17 February 2023. Jan was born Aug 5, 1937 to Harry White and Josephine White in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated from Little Flower Catholic High School for Girls in 1955. She initially entered the workforce with the Philadelphia Gas Works and subsequently in 1966 assumed a position with the Philadelphia Flyers as secretary to the General Manager. In 1971 she moved to Atlanta, GA to work on establishing the Atlanta Flames hockey team as secretary to the President of the Flames. She remained with the Flames until 1980 and then transitioned to General Motors, retiring from GM in 2006. She worked part time for Talbots in Atlanta before moving to the Villages in 2013.
Jan was the ultimate cat lover with at least one feline always in her care. She enjoyed playing cards, mahjong, and visiting with friends and family. Her door was always open and all visitors were warmly welcomed.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Joseph Young (Joe), her brother Joseph H White, niece Kimberly Ann Daley and husband Jim Daley, grand-nieces Theresa and Lauren Daley, grand-nephew James Daley, brother-in- law Morris Young, and sister-in-law Beverly Young. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Josephine and sister-in-law Florence White.
Internment and services will be held in Philadelphia, PA at a later date.
