Shirlynn Louise (Royall) Spears was born on December 2, 1960, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to James H. Royall and Charlean (Royall) Stravato. She grew up surrounded by six siblings and a lifetime of laughter, family, and love.
Shirlynn devoted over 25 years of her life to caring for others as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Her patients and coworkers adored her gentle spirit, her compassion, and her sense of humor. She truly had the heart of a caregiver - always putting others before herself.
She loved angels and had a beautiful collection of them. She also loved reading, crocheting, and spending time with her family, who meant the world to her.
While working in the laundry department at the University of Utah Hospital, Shirlynn met the love of her life, Vern Spears. The two were married on May 20, 1985, and together they built a life filled with love and laughter. They were blessed with four children - three beautiful daughters and one son, Matthew Paul, who passed away at birth.
On the morning of October 15, 2025, Shirlynn passed away peacefully, surrounded by love, and went home to be with her family in Heaven.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James H. Royall and Charlean Stravato; her husband, Vern Spears; her infant son, Matthew Paul; and her siblings, Jenney Mena, Dan Royall, and Christine Murphy.
She is survived by her daughters, Brittany, Kimberly, and Martha Spears; her stepson, Jonathan Spears; eight beloved grandchildren; her sisters, Tina (Roger) Severson and Susan Ford; and many nieces, nephews, and friends who will forever carry her in their hearts.
Shirlynn was loved deeply and will be missed by all who knew her. Her compassion, humor, and strength will live on in the memories of those she touched.
