Sidney M. Babula

Sidney Michael Babula, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home July 25, 2023 in Owosso, Michigan. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and inurnment with military honors will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan at 2:30 PM on Friday, September 1, 2023.
Sidney was born August 18, 1950 in Fremont, Michigan to John and Betty (Dumont) Babula. With the permission of his parents, he entered the United States Army on September 20, 1967 at the age of 17. He served bravely and was honorably discharged in 1970. During his time overseas he was stationed in Korea and he earned the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. He lived his life with conviction, courage, and passion!
Upon his return to civilian life, he traveled around and worked as an arborist for a tree service, a chef on a cruise line, as a groundskeeper for a school in Hawaii, and owned and operated a guide service for fishing in Angel Fire, New Mexico. He had an independent spirit which spilled over into his confidence which was exuded into all facets of his life. He was a dedicated and loving father with a unique energy and had a willingness to share his skills and knowledge with those around him. He cherished the time he spent in both New Mexico and Hawaii brought on by the peacefulness of the water and the next opportunity to fish.
Sindey is survived by his children, Aaron (Bonnie) Bustin, Sr. and Erin (George) Miller; grandchildren, Aaron Bustin, Jr., Natalie (Jared Jeffries) Rosas, Trenton Hitts, and Barbara Miller; great-grandfather to Juliet Rose; half-sisters, Barbara Adams and Kathy (Glen) Davis and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty and his half-sister, Dixie Stinson.
Sidney was a courageous man who overcame many obstacles and his living life to the fullest is evident in both his successes and the challenges he faced along the way. He packed a lot of passion, inspiration, and a "can do" attitude into the 72 years he walked the earth. Sidney will be greatly missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him, but we celebrate his life each day as we see someone fulfill their dreams, watch a sunset or a sunrise; knowing he would've wanted you to achieve greatness and find joy in the simplest of things around you, just as he did.
