Silas Williams Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Home - San Antonio on Jan. 24, 2026.
TSGT (retired) , Silas Williams III entered eternal rest on January 22, 2026, at the age of 91. He was born on November 2, 1934, to the late Silas Williams and Willie McCook Williams. After the early loss of his parents, Silas was lovingly raised by his aunt, Massey Lee Axel-affectionately known as "Momma"-who, along with his brother Charles, shaped the strong family values he carried throughout his life.
A proud patriot, Silas dedicated 23 years of honorable service to the United States Air Force, during which he traveled the world in faithful service to his country. Following his military career, he continued serving others through a distinguished civil service tenure at Kelly Air Force Base. Between his military and civil service careers, Silas spent five years working alongside his brother, Charles E. Williams Sr., as a trusted salesman and delivery driver for Charles's beauty supply business. Even after retirement, his strong work ethic never waned; he later returned to assist at Williams Barber College, once again supporting his brother's endeavors.
A lifelong learner with an inquisitive spirit, Silas attended St. Philip's College, where he studied auto mechanics. He found joy in life's simple pleasures-dancing, reading, and listening to music-and took great pride in his military roots, often visiting the USAF Airman Heritage Museum at Lackland Air Force Base. Above all, Silas cherished time spent with family and friends and was especially proud of his role as a great-grandfather.
Known for his boundless generosity and compassionate heart, Silas was always the first to lend a helping hand. His devotion to family was unwavering; from the moment he entered military service, he made it a priority to support his loved ones, a commitment that never wavered throughout his life. His legacy is one of service, kindness, hard work, and deep love for family.
Silas is preceded in death by his parents, Silas Williams and Willie McCook Williams, his beloved "Momma," Massey Lee Axel and nephews: Charles E. Williams Jr. and Claudius Ervin Williams,
He leaves to cherish his memory his brother, Charles E. Williams Sr.; his daughter, Monica J. Williams Gutierrez; stepdaughter, Elizabeth Gonzales; sons-in-law, Antonio Gutierrez and Richard Gonzales; grandchildren, Steven A. Williams, Valentin R. Morales Jr., Maricella E. Morales, Apryl M. Morales, Sara K. Martinez, Giovanni Strickland, and Vincent D. Juarez; great-grandchildren, Nova J. Morales and Jonah D. Laija; his former spouse, Margaret Stroman; and Dr. Apryl Williams, niece and nephew Aaron Williams. Along with a host of extended family and dear friends.
