Silverio Sorto, age 101, of Corsicana, Texas, passed away peacefully at his residence on February 1, 2025. He was born on October 22, 1923, in Ciudad Barrios, El Salvador, to parents Dionicio Trejo and Crisanta Sorto.
Silverio is survived by his loving wife, Eulalia Ochoa Sorto; his children, Lucia E. Cruz, Rumaldo Ochoa and wife Margarita, Maria E. Velasquez, and Virginia Ochoa Sorto; and his sons-in-law, Jose Enecifor Cruz and Jose J. Velasquez. He also leaves behind numerous grandchildren: Jose E. Cruz, Nancy Sabedra, Liliana Cruz-Rivera, Jose E. Cruz Jr., Blanca D. Moreno, Haley Velasquez, Maria A. Velasquez, Joe Velasquez, Beatriz Romero, Silvia Ochoa, Leslie Ochoa, Bryan B. Diaz, Andrew J. Diaz, and Lucia Molina. Additionally, he is survived by his grandson-in-law, Mark Sabedra, Ralph Rivera, and Alfredo Moreno, as well as his granddaughter-in-law, Andrea Soldevilla-Diaz. His cherished great-grandchildren include Alex Cruz, Madeline Sabedra, David Sabedra, Markie Cruz Sabedra, Aileen Moreno, Isaac Moreno, Anahi Velasquez, Chloe Rivera, Josiah Rivera, Wilmer Molina, Marcella Minero, Angelo Ochoa, Anayah Ochoa, Karen Romero, Wendy Romero, and Enrrique Romero.
He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter, who awaits him in Heaven, as well as his grandchildren Carmelita Sorto, Silvia Sorto, Nancy E. Ochoa, and Walter F. Ochoa.
Silverio lived a full and vibrant life, embracing his passions with joy. He loved riding horses, playing the harmonica and accordion, and dancing. He had a deep appreciation for farming and the farm life, treasuring time spent working the land and caring for animals. Most of all, he loved gathering with family and creating cherished memories with those he held dear.
Visitation with the family will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home, with funeral services following at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel. Pallbearers will be Bryan Diaz, Andrew Diaz, Joe Velasquez, Jose Velasquez, Jose Cruz, and Rumaldo Ochoa. Burial will follow at Pattison Cemetery.
Silverio's legacy of love, hard work, and devotion to family will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
