Weslaco, Texas - Silvia Hernandez, 58, passed away to be with the Lord on September 5, 2024, at her residence.

Silvia Hernandez was born on March 12, 1966, in Weslaco, TX to Mr. Salvador Hernandez & Mrs. Maria De Jesus Garcia.

She is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Jose De Jesus Hernandez; two sisters, Ninfa Gonzales (Robert) & Margarita Hernandez.

Silvia Hernandez is survived by her husband, Juan Martin Garza; four brothers, Francisco Hernandez (Leticia), Salvador Hernandez, Jr. (Gracie), Martin Hernandez (Nora), Antonio Hernandez (Tila); six sisters, San Juanita Treviño (Jose Antonio), Alicia Garza (Ramiro), Guadalupe Brewer (Stephen), Maria De Jesus Hernandez & Juana Cavazos (Rene). Also surviving are numerous nieces & nephews.

Silvia was a beloved 5th Grade Science teacher at Margo Elementary for 30+ years. She was known for her passion for teaching and dedication to her students. She touched the lives of many through her kindness and wisdom. Her exceptional commitment to education was recognized through the 2016 "Teacher of the Year" award, a testament to her outstanding contributions to the field of education. Her impact extended beyond the classroom, as she inspired generations of students to reach their full potential.

In addition to her teaching career, Silvia was a devout Catholic and dedicated catechist who touched the lives of many through her faith and teachings.

Born and raised in the Catholic faith, Silvia lived her life guided by the principles of love, compassion, and service to others. As a catechist at San Martin de Porres Catholic Church, she shared her deep knowledge and passion for the Catholic faith with generations of students, instilling in them the values of faith, hope, and charity.

She was a loving daughter, spouse, aunt, sister, and friend, devoted to her family and cherished by all who knew her. Family was at the center of Silvia's life. She dedicated herself to creating a warm and loving home, filled with laughter, love, and cherished memories. Her unconditional love and unwavering support were a source of strength and comfort to her family members. Silvia played a vital role in the lives of her loved ones. She showed her love by cooking or baking for every single birthday, attended every birthday party or special occasion, hosted family gatherings, provided guidance and support. Silvia was not just a beloved family member; she was the glue that held her family together. Her unwavering love, support, and guidance were the foundation upon which her family thrived. Her presence brought everyone together in times of joy and sorrow, and her absence leaves a void that can never be filled. Silvia will forever be remembered as the heart and soul of her family, a beacon of strength and unity that will continue to inspire them for generations to come."

Visitation for Silvia Hernandez is scheduled for Monday, September 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Tuesday, September 10, 2024 from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM with a Rosary at 7:00 PM at Salinas Funeral Home Weslaco - Chapel of The Heavens. A 10:00 AM Funeral Mass is scheduled Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at San Martin De Porres Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park.
