Simon Ruben Gomez, 76, of Monahans, Texas, passed away on September 2, 2025, at his son’s home in Monahans. Simon was born on February 18, 1949, in Pecos, Texas, to Asencion (Chon) Gomez and Maria Jesus Hernandez.
Simon was a lifelong resident of West Texas and proudly called Monahans his home. He valued family above all and cherished the time he spent with his loved ones.
Simon graduated from Monahans High School in 1968 with a high school diploma. He attended Sul Ross University and graduated in 1972 with a bachelor’s degree of arts. He became a member of Phi Alpha Theta, Lambda-Theta on August 23, 1972.
Simon worked for Exxon for 35 years before retiring. He later worked as an oil field consultant.
Simon was preceded in death by his father, Chon Gomez; mother, Maria Jesus Hernandez Madrid, and stepfather, Gilbert Madrid; and sister, Nadine Larez.
He is survived by his son, Ruben Gomez and his wife, Christine Gomez; and their children, Johnny Gomez, Patrick Gomez, Arianne Palmer and husband, Byrne Palmer, Freddy Gomez, Isabel Gomez, and Jesus (Chuy) Terrazas, and their grandchildren, Ellie and Jack Palmer.
He is survived by his daughter, Consuelo (Connie) Gomez Hignojos and her husband, Albert Hignojos; and son, Gregorio Lionel Gomez; and daughters Serena Carrasco and husband Jason Carrasco and Lori Lira and husband Fabian Lira; and grandchildren Javen Carrasco and wife Destiny Carrasco, Jeric Carrasco, Jaelynn Carrasco, Felix Lira, Alana Lira; and great- grandchildren Ayana Carrasco and Adeline Carrasco.
Simon is survived by his brothers, Rene Madrid and his wife Lou Madrid, Gilbert Jr. Madrid, and sisters, Erminia Vargas and husband, Abel Vargas; Vangi Madrid, and Laura Madrid. Also, his nephews, Marty Madrid and wife Gina Madrid and family; Christian Madrid and wife Isabelle Madrid, Alex and Jeremy Vargas; and nieces, Jennifer Contreras and husband Tony Contreras and family; Emily and Erin Madrid Peek.
Rosary will be at 7 pm on Friday, September 5, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Monahans, Tx. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Monahans, Tx. There will not be a visitation, nor will there be a burial.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Rene Madrid, Gilbert Jr. Madrid, Johnny Gomez, Patrick Gomez, Chuy Terrazas, Fred Gomez, Greg Gomez, Arianne Palmer and Isabel Gomez.
A man of resilience and strength, Simon will be remembered for the love and devotion he shared with those around him.
